IFC Academy
Why Academy?
The fraternal movement has evolved into more than our founders could have dreamed, and to our credit we still find men asking more of their organization. As an IFC, you have the responsibility of showing the college man that he belongs in a fraternity. As an IFC you have the responsibility of representing what is best about the fraternal community on your campus. Academy is one day that will help you refocus your commitment and re-engage your council.
Who Attends?
There is something for EVERYONE. We welcome IFC Officers, delegates, chapter presidents, advisors, grad students, and volunteers. There will be take aways for all of these constituency groups. In fact, we encourage advisors to attend so that they can help advance the relevance of the IFC upon your return to campus.
Academy will convene as one large group and then break into separate educational tracks.
The Public Relations / Marketing track will focus on issues in a way that speaks to how we are publicizing the fraternal experience to potential fraternity members. PR/M is the place for Recruitment, community relations, education, philanthropy, and external affairs officers. The Executive Track will focus on the role of the presiding officer in the council and how he can be a better steward of the office. We'll welcome IFC Presidents, Internal affairs, administration, judicial, and other key executive officers.
One of the best parts of Academy is that we welcome all those who have an interest in the success of your IFC. Advisors, chapter presidents, chapter delegates, and graduate advisors.
Time and Location
The timing of the Academy is designed to reach the most people at the beginning of their terms. Our research indicates that 65% of councils elect officers in the fall term. The late January date was selected based on feedback from past graduates. They say the timing allows the council to return to campus and have enough time to start the conversations and implement changes. IFC Academy 2012 will be held January 28, 2012 at the Sheraton Indianapolis City Centre Hotel. Reserve your rooms by January 18, 2012 for the discounted rate!
Indianapolis is easily accessed for campuses close enough to drive in and is served by a terrific, reasonably priced International Airport.
Indianapolis will allow us to use the resources of the many Inter/National Headquarters and staff that are located here. We intend to include executive directors and industry leaders in our programming. This may be the first time that many of the officers have the opportunity to visit their headquarters and talk with the staff. Councils could arrange to visit headquarters on either Friday or Sunday.
The Sheraton Indianapolis City Centre Hotel has been selected to be our host hotel. The rate for the hotel rooms will be $99/night.
While councils are at the Academy, your attention and focus will be fully on the important issues facing your community. However, the downtown location offers you the opportunity to explore within walking distance of the hotel some of the unique characteristics of our great city, such as the NCAA Hall of Champions, Circle Center , and other cultural outlets.
Professional Setting and Background
Our curriculum is designed by professional staff from the North-American Interfraternity Conference and is communicated through fraternity executives, former inter/national presidents, attorneys, and other leaders in the fraternal world.
Dress for the Academy will be professional. In addition, during the academy, participants are expected to fully participate in all aspects of the academy and remain substance free. The programs will be facilitated by NIC professional staff and volunteers, attorneys, fraternity executives, and campus professionals.
How do I attend?
Registration fee is $150 per participant ($175 for non-interchange). This includes 2 meals, and all materials while at Academy. Each institution is responsible for travel expenses and lodging.
TESTIMONIALS
"Whether I was learning from or helping others, the experience was rich for me as both a member of IFC and a leader in general. I was able to take my experiences back to greatly improve not only Carnegie Mellon's IFC, but also my chapter and myself as a leader. The experience was an invaluable asset to my college experience." -Michael Carroll, Carnegie Mellon
"This conference gave me the resources to better MTSU's Greek life through development, relevance, and implementation. I encourage any Greek member to attend the IFC academy in hopes of bettering their campus, as well as their own leadership skills." -Craig Hutto, Middle Tennessee State
