Interning at UIFI

Serving as an Intern at UIFI can be a very fulfilling experience for a UIFI Graduate.  This is an excellent opportunity to give back and contribute to the learning of your interfraternal brothers and sisters from across North-America.  UIFI Interns play a very critical role from managing much of the logistical support for a session to delivering their testimonials, which are consistently viewed as a highlght of the experience for many interns and participants alike.

Who is eligible to be a UIFI intern?

Interns for UIFI must be graduates of the Institute and be an undergraduate student involved in fraternity/sorority life.  Students graduating from their institution in the spring/summer of 2010 are ligible and encouraged to apply.  Professionals and non-students are not eligible to apply.

What is the role of the UIFI Intern?

The primary role of the intern is to provide logistical support to ensure a positive UIFI experience for facilitators and students participating in the program.  Interns may also assist with experiential activities and other curriculum components as part of the session leadership team along with the session coordinator and NIC coordinator.

What are the specific responsibilities of a UIFI Intern?

• Besides bringing a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sense of fun, the interns will do the following:
• Assist with presentation/facilitation of curriculum components as determined by session coordinator and NIC coordinator.  
• Prepare and present a brief testimonial for participants about how they took their UIFI experience and created positive change within their chapter, council, and/or fraternity/sorority communities.
• Serve as a liaison to facilitators and students, especially in preparation for chapter meetings.
• Coordinate and facilitate all evening social activities at the chapter house.
• Participate in evening facilitator team meetings.
• Coordinate transportation arrival and departure schedules for students flying to UIFI.
• Ensure all equipment and materials for each day's sessions are available 
• Respect the policies and procedures of the North-American Interfraternity Conference and all other national entities connected to the Intern's affiliation.
• Live in the chapter house during the entire institute. 
• Support the substance-free policy of UIFI, share this expectation with participants and assist in holding them accountable to it.
• Coordinate facility needs, rooming lists, door signs, meal assignments, name tag/folder distribution, house tours, etc.
• Coordinate group picture.
• Coordinate transportation for off-site activities such as service projects, social events, etc.
• At all times act in a professional manner and as a representative of the NIC and UIFI.  This includes acting and dressing appropriately, participating in appropriate activities and confronting inappropriate ones

What costs are involved?

Interns are expected to cover their own travel expenses to and from the UIFI host sites.  The NIC will cover all lodging and meal expenses and will provide materials for the program.

How do I apply?

The deadline for Intern Applications for UIFI 2010 has passed.  Intern selections will occur in March and all applicants will know their status by the end of March, 2010.
