Press ReleaseEric Freeman has decided to leave his post as manager of the coalition assessment project to seek other professional opportunities. "It will certainly be very difficult to replace his talents, attention to details, and authenticity. He will continue in the role until April 30, 2011. He has also said that he's willing to train the new person and share some of the tactics and ideas that have been successful for him," shared NIC President & CEO Pete Smithhisler.

The manager's role concentrates on providing leadership for the on-site assessment of the environment in which fraternities and sororities operate on campuses in North America, providing a written report and recommendations to campus-based professionals to use in further developing student life by enhancing fraternity/sorority life.

Fraternity Rights Update from UniLOA
Press ReleaseMany of you may have seen news stories, commentaries, a report, or the book itself regarding college student learning, issued by the Social Science Research Council a few days ago. The SSRC has reported that students aren’t improving their knowledge as a result of their collegiate experience, especially in the first two years. Media outlets have fueled a sense that colleges and universities aren’t doing very well in promoting academic growth. Here is an excerpt with video from CNN: http://amfix.blogs.cnn.com/2011/01/19/students-show-no-significant-gains-after-first-two-years-of-college-according-to-study/
The NIC promptly reached out to the researchers involved with the UniLOA for further insight and clarification. Mark Frederick shared that “Because the area of student growth, learning, and development is of importance to all of us, the Center for Learning Outcomes Assessment (us) has prepared the attached statement.” We believe that the findings from the UniLOA about fraternity men developing faster and at higher levels than their non-fraternity counterparts outside of the classroom is as important as ever.
We encourage you all to continue to share the Case for Fraternity Rights (www.nicindy.org/fraternityrights) with your respective organizations. The NIC is working with the UniLOA researchers to get their story in the news. The NIC is working with Media outlets to promote this position.
