The Coalition Assessment Project is designed to advance the fraternity and sorority movement within colleges and university across North America. Its purpose is to objectively assess and communicate the overall health of a fraternity and sorority community, and this is accomplished via

  • The collection of key target area information and data in advance of an on-campus site visit
  • A site visit conducted by a trained team of campus and fraternity/sorority leaders representative of the community being visited
  • A final assessment report, which includes campus-specific strengths, limitations, and especially recommendations, from the team based on pre-assessment data and information gained from the site visit

The assessment process, as well as the final report, is a collaborative effort with the host institution. The assessment will include input from a variety of sources who are involved with, and who can impact the health and viability of, the local fraternity and sorority community.

The assessment project focuses on five target areas within a fraternity and sorority community. It seeks to thoroughly understand, and report to the university community, its successes and limitations in

  • Developing Positive Interpersonal Relationships
  • Advancing Current Leadership Development
  • Strengthening Social IQ, Citizenship, and Service Learning
  • Advancing Academic Interests/Assessing Graduation Rates of Members
  • Determining Effectiveness of Campus Interface with and Support of the Fraternity and Sorority Community

Outcomes of each assessment will:

  • Identify the strengths, limitations and progress of the campus fraternal community, allowing for benchmarking internally and with peer institutions
  • Assist stakeholders in dealing with critical issues facing their fraternity and sorority communities including, but not limited to, dysfunctional behaviors, alcohol misuse and future viability

The assessment project takes into consideration the special needs and unique circumstances of each campus and community, and the process is effective in all types of campus settings – in Greek communities large and small, and from large state universities as well as small liberal arts campuses.

The length and cost of each assessment visit varies with the size of the fraternity and sorority community involved. Campuses can expect that fees and expenses will range from $4,000 - $8,000 depending on the size of your community.

Phases of an Assessment Project

 Phase 1:

  • Campus contact signs letter of agreement, which also identifies date for campus site visit
  • Campus appoints “Blue Ribbon Committee” to serve as support for staff during the assessment, to meet with on-campus visit team, to review the final report, and to discuss implementation
  • Campus receives data request from coalition

Phase 2 :

  • On-campus coalition team appointed based on campus needs/demographics
  • Campus completes and returns data request

Phase 3:

  • On-campus coalition team visit occurs

Phase 4:

  • Final Report received by campus (within 60 days of on-campus visit)
  • Review of final report with campus officials by on-campus coalition team lead
  • Follow up with campus by coalition manager
