Student Finance Committee Application for the Fraternity & Sorority PAC due 8/31
We are looking for applicants for the national Student Finance Committee of the Fraternity & Sorority PAC.
The Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee (FSPAC) was formed in 2005 by national fraternity and sorority leaders who wanted to support fraternity/.sorority members in Congress, our alumnae/alumni running for the first time, and other members of Congress that have supported issues that would improve the student fraternal experience. Today, we are the largest federal PAC focused solely on higher education issues. Since 2005, the FSPAC has contributed to a bipartisan slate of candidates and has an outstanding winning percentage in those races. We are proud supporters of the 146 Greek members of 112th Congress and other champions of policy choices that help sustain the fraternal experience.
This past April, the FSPAC decided to expand its level of student involvement by appointing two student members of the Board of Directors. We are proud to have been selected as those first two student members and we will work hard to be the voice of students nationwide. One of our first initiatives is to build a broad network of students who can help spread the word about what the PAC is doing to benefit Greek life.
The Student Finance Committee (SFC) is being formed in an effort to include students into the activities of the PAC. Members of the SFC will represent the PAC at various fundraisers, events, and meetings, providing much needed student perspective for our lawmakers in Washington. They will also help inform students on their campus and in their state/region about the PAC’s activities and how to get involved.
The PAC in conjunction with the SFC hopes to raise $25,000 from student donations – aiming to collect $25 from at least 1,000 student donors – for the 2010-2011 fundraising cycle. That $25,000 would represent a significant portion of the $500,000 the PAC hopes to raise overall this election cycle.
We are looking for 10-15 highly qualified students that have held leadership positions in their fraternal organization to form the Student Finance Committee. The students would be required to raise $1,000 in order to stay on the committee and would be directly involved in the PAC activities between now and Election Day 2012. This experience would complement the leadership experience many students already have in their chapter and on their campus. Virtually all of the work will be done on campus at a time that doesn’t conflict with your existing commitments.
