Phi Gam Les Richter Chosen for Pro Football Hall of Fame

Posted by Ben Pendry

The nominations committee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio has selected Les Richter, a member of Phi Gamma Delta from the University of California-Berkeley, for posthumous induction into the Hall on August 6th. A standout linebacker and kicker for the Los Angeles Rams from 1954 through 1962, he was chosen for the Pro Bowl eight times and never missed a game in nine seasons. In the spring of his senior year in Berkeley, the Rams traded 11 players to the Dallas Texans to obtain the rights to Richter, then waited for him to complete two years of military service before he could play an NFL game. After retiring from football, he was involved in the auto racing industry, including a stint as head of operations for NASCAR and president of Riverside International Raceway. Richter passed away at age 79 on June 12, 2010.
