NIC Announces 2011 Gold and Silver Medalists
INDIANAPOLIS (3/22/11) - The North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) is pleased to announce the presentation of the Gold and Silver Medals at the 2011 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. As one of the oldest traditions in the interfraternal world, the presentation of the Gold Medal dates back nearly 70 years. It is presented for lifelong service to the interfraternal community and is the highest honor that the NIC can bestow. 2011 medalists include former NIC Chairman Marc Katz, Former Sigma Alpha Epsilon executive Ken Tracey, Former NIC Board Member Rick Barnes, and current Theta Xi Executive Director Jim Vredenburgh.
The presentation of the NIC Silver Medal is a tradition that dates back nearly 30 years. It is presented for specific acts of leadership within the fraternity movement. The 2011 recipient is Daniel A. Shaver, President of Affinity Marketing Consultants.
A member of Alpha Epsilon Pi, Katz has worked diligently as a professional and volunteer for the advancement of the fraternal movement. He is the recipient of numerous awards from his own fraternity as well as interfraternal service awards from the fraternal community. He currently serves as President of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Foundation.
A member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Tracey is a past executive director of SAE and currently serves as Vice President of the board of directors. He is also past chairman of the North American Interfraternity Foundation. He is the recipient of multiple service awards and is a past president of the Fraternity Executives Association.
A member of FarmHouse Fraternity, Barnes served for 10 years on the NIC board of directors. He is a past board member for his own fraternity and past-president of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors. He continues to serve on multiple Interfraternal boards including the Fraternity and Sorority PAC and AFLV.
A member of Theta Xi Fraternity, Vredenburgh began on Theta Xi staff in 1974 and currently serves as the fraternity's executive director. His interfraternal service has included boards of directors, work-groups, interfraternal honors, and the highest honor from both Theta Xi and the Fraternity Executives Association.
NIC President and CEO Pete Smithhisler stated, "These men are our NIC standard bearers. I would challenge anyone to find four men who are more interfraternal in their philosophy, more collaborative in their work, or more respected for the legacy they continue to leave in the interfraternal world."
A member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Shaver leads Affinity Marketing's efforts to protect his client's marks. His work has set the standard for trademark licensing and protection. NIC President & CEO Smithhisler states, "Dan's work has enabled our organizations to protect their marks and to properly address abuse or improper representation of fraternity property."
