Position Announcement - Director of Public Policy

The North-American Interfraternity Conference invites candidates to submit an application for the Director of Public Policy position.  This position will concentrate on enhancing the environment in which fraternities operate by guiding campus advocacy efforts for the NIC.  The Director of Public Policy will be a senior level position, based at the NIC headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. 

 

Position Announcement - NIC Director of Public Policy

The North-American Interfraternity Conference invites candidates to submit an application for the Director of Public Policy position.  This position will concentrate on enhancing the environment in which fraternities operate by guiding campus advocacy efforts for the NIC.  The Director of Public Policy will be a senior level position, based at the NIC headquarters in Indianapolis, IN.  The expectations of the director include;

  • Direct and manage policy related to key Freedom of Association issues such as relationship statements/agreements, restrictive recruitment and expansion policies, and related indemnification requirements.
  • Mange the NIC document review process which includes; daily monitoring of campus policies related to fraternity, college/university board of trustee level interaction on issues of fraternity growth and advancement, collaboration with industry partners to coordinate response to campus policy issues.
  • Serve as a liaison between member fraternities and campus partners to ensure that decisions are reached that are in the best interest of the growth and advancement of the fraternal movement.
  • Communicate with a wide variety of audiences including elected officials, government agencies, organizations, and industry to convey policy positions to develop effective coalitions
  • Coordinate a national advocacy strategy to effectively monitor and alert industry stakeholders about campus or government issues related to freedom of association, restrictive policies, and violations of NIC Standards.
  • Build and steward positive relationships with NIC stakeholders, partners, and constituencies while advocating for full implementation of NIC Standards and the growth of the fraternity movement.
  • Lead the NIC Standards certification process for member fraternities which includes collection and analysis of member data.  The director will utilize this data to provide industry trend analysis and benchmarking information to member fraternities.

Qualifications-

  • A graduate level degree in public policy, law, nonprofit management, communication, higher education, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work productively with diverse organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks;
  • Proven ability to independently while maintaining strong connections with a dynamic professional team.
  • Four years of advocacy experience and a proven track record of success leading education and/or advocacy campaigns on a national level is desired.
  • Willingness to travel (including weekends)

Compensation -

Salary range is $50-70,000 and is commensurate with experience.
