Kappa Alpha Order's 35th Knight Commander receives Distinguished Service Award
Carmel, Indiana (FEA) July 18, 2011 - The Fraternity Executives Association is proud to announce that James R. "Jim" Estes is the 2011 recipient of the Association's Distinguished Service Award. Jim accepted the award at the annual meeting of the Association on July 9, at the closing banquet held in Chicago, Ill.
The Fraternity Executives Association Distinguished Service Award is conferred upon persons who have contributed outstanding service in the betterment of all college fraternal organizations by such accomplishments as: Sustained and successful leadership in Interfraternity affairs and in support of the Fraternity Executives Association.
Jim has been a decades long volunteer to his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order, and to the interfraternal community at large. Starting as a chapter advisor and house corporation board president, he progressed to lead the chapters of the fraternity in the state of Missouri. In 1995 he was elected to the Executive Council, Kappa Alpha's board of directors. In 1997, he became the 35th Knight Commander or national president.
Following his four-year tenure as national president, Jim became involved with the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) the umbrella interfraternal organization for sixty-five inter/national men's fraternities. He served on its board beginning in 2001, was elected Chairman of the NIC board of directors in 2004, and received that organization's "Gold Medal" in 2010. He has been a zealous and passionate advocate for the fraternity and sorority movement, developing hundreds of relationships, both professional and personally, between volunteers, undergraduates, and professionals in the fraternal world.
