NIC Resolution
Resolution to Foster Academic Achievement
WHEREAS, the members of the North-American Interfraternity Conference believe in supporting the academic achievement of our student members;
WHEREAS, our own Basic Expectations of Fraternity Membership state we will strive for academic achievement and practice academic integrity;
WHEREAS, many of the creeds & mottoes of NIC member fraternities reflect their organizations' commitment to assisting their members in the acquisition of a sound education and becoming learned individuals;
WHEREAS, the fraternity community is in a cooperative relationship with institutions of higher education;
WHEREAS, fraternities exist in an academic setting and in accord with a tradition of scholastic concern;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the member fraternities support the North-American Interfraternity Conference in its continuing efforts:
- To foster academic achievement among the membership of the 63 NIC member fraternities by offering educational resource materials such as Making the Grade ... Getting the Job .
- To provide recognition by presenting the NIC Academic Awards Program to Interfraternity Councils and their chapters that demonstrate academic achievement.
- To explore the establishment of a recognition program for faculty members who advise fraternity members toward academic achievement.
- To support and enhance the leadership role played by national Greek academic honorary organizations such as Gamma Sigma Alpha and the Order of Omega.
- To sponsor continuing education for NIC member fraternity scholarship chairmen such as the NIC Academic Achievement Forum on April 5, 1997 in the O'Hare Hilton Hotel, Chicago, Illinois.
