Dear Editor:
George W. Bush was honored by the North-American Interfraternity Conference with its Gold Medal. Contrary to Ms. Roberts' opinion (Op-Ed, Dec 1), the President was honored for his patriotism, his steadfast resolve, his sense of duty, and his commitment to advancing the ideals of a global community.
Ms. Roberts missed her mark by saying that fraternities are about "insiders and outsiders." Fraternities are open to all people. Joining a fraternity is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to foster the ideals and values of the organization; Ideals and values such as leadership, community service, brotherhood, and personal development. The President embodies these every day.
The NIC also honored Senator and Mrs. Robert Dole and Senator Richard Lugar, prominent fraternity and sorority members, too! These leaders espouse the same values and work tirelessly on behalf of all American people. They are outstanding role models for today's fraternity men.
On behalf of the over 5 million fraternity alumni, we thank our award winners for their leadership and community involvement.
Sincerely,
William D. Jenkins, President
North-American Interfraternity Conference
